    Hotel from Hell...Royalton Bavaro

Rude reception staff. Cold food. Teaspoons, salt, milk, diet juice were as elusive as the managers. My partner complained, and asked to see a manager, still waiting. Not even an apology, for serving cold food. Entertainment was a disgrace, the only decent act was Latin IL Divo who were fantastic, they had a 7pm slot, when most people were at dinner. I would defo not recommend this hotel, supposed to be 5*, I wouldn't give it 2*. For what we paid, I was expecting a little bit of luxury, not a chance!! Out of all the staff, there was about 6 who were extremely helpful. It is nowhere near any shops, $80 in a taxi to the Blue Mall...shocking! The shop in the hotel was a rip off. $4 for a Milky Way, Clipper Lighter $7 but the best one was $9 for a box of Pringles!!! Outrageous, because they know you can't get goods nearby. If I could, I wouldn't even give it 1*.

    Family trip - Aug. 2023

    POSITIVES:
First, I would like to say that this was one of my best, memorable vacations!
The Royalton Bávaro, all inclusive, does not disappoint! Keep in mind we did not get the Diamond upgrade. From what we researched, it was not worth the extra fee for our needs on our vacation.
Upon check in, we were issued a bracelet, which served as our room key, and age verification. This was nice, as to not have to cary a room key, or worrying about leaving it behind! (just don’t take it off - or if you do, don’t lose it! You have to turn it back in at the end of your stay. If you don’t, it’s USD$50!) We were also graciously greeted with a bellboy that brought us and all of our luggage to our room!
There are plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy- especially families. There are many pools and chairs for every guest to enjoy (not once did we have to search for chairs), and full on-site beach access. There were activities by the pool- such as fitness-game challenges, Royalton Fit (which essentially brings the gym to the pool - in an exciting atmosphere), Foam parties, and much more! With this, there were also activities in/by the front theater- such and the White party, karaoke, DJs, and dancing (even though I normally don’t do it, the Vibeteam convinced me to do it - and it was awesome 🤩).
Speaking of the Vibeteam - Royalton’s entertainment crew - Specifically, Kervens, Gregory, and Edaline made the whole experience one of the best it could have been! They were amazing - caring, uplifting, full of energy, exciting people to be around, and made us excited for, and to attend the events!! They even taught us how to do the dances to the songs the DJ played (it felt just like JustDance!)!! Can’t wait to see them again!!
The restaurants on site were great! We visited the included restaurants - the 2 steak places, and the italian place (there was a couple more, and one that was an additional charge, that we did not get to do), the sports bar (which was open until 6am - for us late night snackers), along with the buffet which had a different themed night, every night!
Next up, the room — We were in building 13, on floor 3 - which had a nice view of the lazy river, and is a little less than a 0.5 mile walk to the front desk. From the website, it was a luxury family suite (we had 4 of us- 2 adults, and 2 teenagers. The room had a moving partition in between the bed, and the pull out couch, along with a opaque glass wall separating the shower/sink/jacuzzi room. The toilet is separate behind a sliding-wall door, which was nice, to be able to get ready, while still having the option for someone to use the restroom should they needed it. A couple days into the trip, we realized we should have booked the swim-up pool room! It would have been nice to be able to go for a midnight swim, when you just can’t sleep!!

DOWN SIDES:
First- the restaurants - the air conditioning did not seem to be working very well. It was very warm in there - and for us was not overly enjoyable for eating. However, this is understandable, as the doors to the restaurants were constantly open, as there was a huge number of guests coming and going. Another thing with the restaurants - you are not able to place “reservations” for when you want to eat. Instead, you had to go to the restaurant and be put on a waiting list. For us, was about 60-90+ minutes each time. BUT, we learned (after the second night): after our fun filled day, go to the restaurant where you want to eat and ask to be placed on the “waiting list” for around the time you want to eat. They give you a pager, but usually seat you (plus/minus 30-45 minutes) of the time you requested.
Next- the rooms. Some rooms have a scent of moisture. This is to be expected, as you are in a tropical climate, directly on the beach. If it is bothersome, they will provide a dehumidifier and air freshener if you ask.
Next- the beach - The beach was full of seaweed, which the beach attendants work and try very very hard to remove. However, it is seasonal. We did swim at the beach a couple times - just swim past the seaweed and shower off at the provided showers when you return. There are also a ton of people that will ask you to buy things, or excursions from them. DO NOT DO IT. There are signs before you enter the beach warning you of this. Just tell them no, and they will usually go away.

QUICK TIPS:
Make sure to bring small bills (we gave between USD$1-5) to tip the bartenders, waiters/waitresses, and bellmen. We learned, if you hand it to a specific person, they keep it. If you leave it on the table, it is split amongst them all at that place.
Next - Don’t drink the tap water. If you are not a local, it will upset your stomach. They provide plenty of bottled water, and other beverages. If you need more, ask!

Knowing and understanding some Spanish also came in handy… Most employees speak and understand English very well, however, Spanish made it a little easier to communicate with some. Be patient, and kind with those that don’t understand fully. They are trying their best! Worst case scenario, open Google Translate on your phone, make their life’s a little easier. Put yourselves in their shoes.

    Must go for families

My 22months old son enjoy his stay and especially due to the slides. I really appreciate the service on the beach from Miguel who kept making sure we had everything such as drinks and etc. Carlos, Franklin and Ashley from the sand bar were extremely friendly and gave great service during our stay.

If you are unsure.. just book it !

I just came back from here last week and it was a great trip. I have to start with how the resort looks, I was TERRIFIED that it wouldn't be tropical enough but I can tell you it was an absolutely stunning! Especially the beach, the water was super clear and the sand was a beautiful white colour. Shout out to my favourite people.. Elaine and Ruban at the bar by the kids water park. They made our entire trip, I would go back just to see them again! They had outstanding service and made us truly feel like family. Another shout out to the bartender Ricardo at the diamond club bar. He went over and above to make sure we were always happy! Now on to the food... it was soooo good and the portions were BIG. We never went hungry. I recommend the steak house 100% ALSO the sports bar... now that was outstanding food. THE LAZY RIVER IS THE BEST EVER. Ive never seen anything quite like it.. great for kids or adults. The bar was a nice touch, always pumping with people and music in it! Now the biggest down fall of the trip was diamond club, I have been to other Royaltons in Mexico and went diamond club... you got a lot more for your money. My other family members didn't go diamond club and they got treated better than me and my family. Our butler would check on us once but never helped us with anything else. I requested pillows for my sons bed and we didn't get them until the 4th day. I feel like the service of diamond club could be worked on in this resort, as well as the front desk service. Some people can be fairly mean. In the end we had an amazing vacation, I always read reviews on here and let them get in my head because of the little things people complain about. Don't let that happen, I have been to more than 10 resorts and all of them have their ups and downs. But you can't go wrong at a Royalton. Ill keep on coming back to their resorts because of what they stand by and the food they offer. Sure there is some things that could be worked on (cushions could be changed/they were outdated) and some things were worn out but lets be honest, is that really going to ruin your vacation ? NO! Go take a mama Juana and enjoy the beauty of PuntaCanada ;)
