Rude and racist shuttle driver, front desk, pool side entertainment staff
I'm a visible minority, a Chinese decent, and currently still at Bahia AquaMarine, and we're not checking out until Sept. 30th. We went to the beach today, and when we're getting back to our specific location, I asked the shuttle driver politely if the shuttle goes to AqauMarine in perfect English. He answered in Saonish, I said to him "I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're saying." He spoke again in Spanish arrogantly and drove off. This is not my first experience of arrogant staff, especially shuttle driver, pool side entertainment, towel service, and front desk staff, at this facility overall. Attitude comes from top down, you should not be in the hospitality business, if the staff is rude and dangerously borderline racist. The restaurant and room custodians in general are friendly and service oriented.
Give this a miss
I spent more time at reception waiting to complain than I did a t the pool I have had many trips to Bahia Principe hotels in Dominican (Ambar) and Mexico (Sian Kaan / Coba / Akumel) and Punta Cana was by far the worst. Give it a miss unless you can book any of the others mentioned which command 5 stars. Got propositioned by a Prostitute on site at Punta Cana TUI rep and staff were very apologetic. Will not return to DOM REP again , had a poor experience at the airport on a previous occasion regards exit tax
My husband and I went there to celebrate his birthday. Upon arrival were quite upset already on how the reception stuff does thre jobs poorly. Tipping: Unexpected i was surprised the stuff who took our luggage waited at the room just for the tips? If my husband didn't say a words they won't let go. I even notice on how the shuttle driver even at the restaurant stuff waiting for tips time to time upon serving people aw we do love going all-inclusive holidays but this the first i encounter this kind of gesture.Stuff are to loud they just stand talking each not doing there jobs few of them are great they entertain us without saying a words ah language barrier yes thats main thing thou. But anyways the food is above average that makes sense was all good. The rooms: Is way to bad it smells dump..when we arrive no trash bags on the bin. I even notice the old bathroom shower area isn't worth enough to stay. Above the bathroom ceiling the water drip off into the floor since the air conditioning is on. They have long amzing beaches we woke up early in the morning stay at the beach while waiting the sunset. The seaweeds is everywhere won't bother us a bit since then the guy cme over and clean the beach and it turns out great! I just wish they gave extra effort attention to thier shuttle driver they should explain wht there job really is with or without tips they should accommodate people. The pools aren't clean at all plastic glasss are everywhere. That rubbish is in the middle of the pool.been thre for days and it smells badly. Stuff thrown left over drinks to the pools and also the people who stayed there for drinks. The stuff at the pool area ignore you if u aren't local Spanish speaking languages they entertain them first compared to us which kinda weird. As my husband says learn to speak like local be rude as they are and they will notice you 🙂and it works. Just purely honest reviews based on our experience!! Lastly about there towels..Will do post some of the pictures on here. Anyways dominican republic is a promising country we had great time.
My daughter and I booked 6 days at the Bahia Principe Grand Punta Cana. My advise to anyone booking a resort vacation is Read Reviews before booking!!! What a huge disappointment! This is a very old resort and the rooms are in terrible shape. They have huge roaches in the rooms and mosquito infested grounds. We went to front desk to complain about the roaches found in our room and paid Extra to get transferred to a room at their (exclusive) hotel Amber, rooms looked newer and way better than the Grand Punta Cana, food was amazing but later that night we returned to a hot and humid room and called front desk to report it someone show up and said it was fixed but it still didn't work. Next day same thing ! we were totally ignored. Never coming back to this hotel One positive thing I can say is that the people that work at this hotel are very nice. The servers , the grounds crew were very attentive and always had a smile on their face..
Enjoyable holiday - room for improvement
Before I go into my constructive criticism/feedback I feel it necessary to call out some of the unrealistic expectations in other reviews. 1. Lack of English speaking staff - you have chosen to holiday/vacation in a Spanish speaking country! I can guarantee the staff speak better English than you do Spanish. We never had any issues with communication and my Spanish vocabulary begins and ends with my ability to order a beer! 2. Bugs - you have chosen to holiday/vacation in a tropical country! What do you want the staff to do? Bite them back for you? 3. Seaweed - you are in a resort with a shoreline on the North Atlantic! If common sense doesn’t tell you this could possibly be an issue then read previous reviews before you travel. 4. Value for money - I would like to know what accommodation people are comparing this to in North America and Europe because I’ve never found anything that comes close to the value for money in these locations. Anyway actual review time. On check in we were given an already occupied room. I suspect this was due to the check in staff member not paying full attention to the job in hand and instead talking to colleagues while checking us in. It was quickly resolved and we moved on. I can see why a detail like this might be irksome for guests after a long journey. The room we had was clean but fair to say it was dated and in need of a refurb. Minibar was stocked to a level I would expect of an all inclusive resort on a daily basis. Bed was large and comfortable. Never felt there were any security issues at any time. The food was about the standard I would expect for the price. Good fruit, veg and meat options at every service. I would say that the choices were starting to get a bit repetitive towards the end of our weeks stay - this could have become an issue had we be staying for 2 weeks. Neither my partner or I have any dietary requirements so can’t comment on vegetarian/gluten free/Halal/etc… options. Construction work - our room was far enough away that this didn’t disturb us. It did mean that a large part of facilities that we were looking forward to were unavailable. I don’t blame the hotel for this as phased refurbishment is required as mention previously. We booked with TUI in the UK who I do hold responsible for this as they couldn’t/wouldn’t provide an alternative that didn’t have a significant price increase. The 2 pools that were available need some TLC. Although the entertainment staff worked tirelessly the entertainment was a bit too loud for our liking. Sometimes less is more. Evening entertainment wasn’t really my cup of tea but that’s not to say it was bad. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Specific mentions for Santa at the pool bar - cheers for the Bahama mamas. Carmen for the breakfast mimosas. Franklin for the G&T’s
