    Beautiful friendly clean stay!!!

We came here for two weeks and booked a swim up pool. Initially we were placed close to where there are building works and requested a move due to the noise, this wasn’t an issue for the staff and we were moved promptly. This hotel is vast, we stayed in the adults only part near to the beach. THE BEACH- it’s soft white sand and warm water makes a change from the pool, it’s well kept and clean, many beds with shade, it’s does get busy so get down there early. THE POOL - We had no issues getting asun bed, the pool is big and warm. Swim up bar with friendly staff who will walk around taking drink orders (remember to tip) . The pool is quieter in the morning. Very loud after 12 noon. Recommend the portofino, Greek and Thali aka Carte Resturants books Le via the hotel app- AVOID M.E.A.T was the worst food and service ever by miserable staff. TOURS- Saona island a must, $129 each included food and drink and party on the boat. They will take photos but haggle the price. We paid $75 . BUGGYS- $79 each, take swim shoes and wear old clothes, fun for a few hours , will need money for food and drink. Take a waterproof bag. SCAPE PARK - $139 each- so much fun, full day out zip lining from cliffs and into water, iguana land, monkeys and parrots. No food included but can buy there. A lovely gift shop to buy water shoes and waterproof phone cases. SHOPPING TRIP- avoid unless you want a wardrobe from IKEA, a motorbike, new tv - it doesn’t cost anything but we paid $40 in taxis as we didn’t want to go at a specific time. Over all we would return. ❗️My advice- be prepared to be bitten badly by mosquitoes, we needed to seek medical assistance . Take antihistamine tablets and cream and maybe a mosquito course of tablets before coming. They’re expensive in the hotel. Over all the hotel is clean, staff super helpful.

    Average at Best

My fiancé and I just recently got back from our trip and here is my honest review along with some tips. Rooms: Our room was overall very beautiful. We had a corner suite which I think we lucked out and got the best view in the whole resort. When we arrived, our bedsheets were wet. When we called to get somebody to change them it took housekeeping over an hour and a half to arrive. Our shower wasn’t very clean either. Besides the first day, we didn’t really have many issues, and overall our room, and the view, was nice. Pool: We spent most of our days by the pool, but after the first day, we realized in order to get a few lounge chairs we would have to be there by 7 AM the latest. Regardless of the multiple signs that say “no reserving lounge chairs,” nobody cares. While I spent my day at the pool by the lounge chair, there was multiple times where the people next to me didn’t show up until after noon. A bit ridiculous. Please be aware that this pool is not clean. Unfortunately it took me until the end of my five day stay to realize how disgusting it truly was. On my last day in the morning there was a guest swimming around in goggles telling the staff about all the disgusting things she saw at the bottom of the pool. As I watched the staff clean the pool, I noticed that there was no scrubbing brushes being used and that they relied on their hands. Hence why there was so much mold between the grout in the tiles. It is it is a shame because it was such a beautiful pool area from the outside, but the more I looked at it, the more disgusting it became. Entertainment: Nightlife at this resort is pretty nonexistent. They talk about how great the sports bar is but I found the one at the village that had karaoke to be a lot more lively. The entertainment during the day was just average. The nice part is if you wanted to sit around and just read a book this is a great place for you. Food/Drinks: Meals were pretty subpar. The biggest tip I can give you is if you don’t want to end up at the buffet every night reserve your meals on the app as soon as you can. I read in multiple places that you could reserve them before you arrived but I didn’t have any luck doing that. Although, with some of the dinner options I think we may have been better off just eating from the buffet. I can honestly say I didn’t have one great meal while we were there (with the exception of breakfast). When I did eat at the buffet, I tended to gravitate towards whatever was being cooked in front of me that way I knew it was fresh and hot. So it was great to have options like that at every buffet meal. With the amount of alcohol I drank in the first few days I would assume that I would at least get a little buzz. However, I think I just ended up with high blood sugar. There was absolutely NO alcohol in any of the drinks that I had. I started resorting to beer, but after a while, I was sick of that too. I essentially didn’t drink the last two days of my trip. I found the food and drinks to be a very big disappointment. Service: Although I feel that I tipped well, because I didn’t speak Spanish well nobody seem to really care to help me. I definitely felt that those who spoke French and Spanish received better service. The shining stars were the people on service at the breakfast buffet. They were the absolute sweetest and most energetic. I was surprised with how little tipping I saw going on there and assumed that if I tipped decently, I would get better service. That was not the case for me. Transportation: There are a lot of ways to get around this massive resort. If you’re looking to go somewhere fast, just walk because the carts that take you along Avenue Bavaro are slowwwww. We ended up walking to and from the villages almost every night and most times there wasn’t transportation in sight. I was under the impression that this was a luxury resort… overall, this was not the case. In hindsight, I wonder if we were better off saving money, and not staying in the adults only section. After all, there was no security enforcing the no children rule. I was definitely disappointed in my stay, although there were some nice parts to the resort.

    Paraside!

My husband and I went to the Bahia Principe Luxury Ambar for five nights and four full days. I fell in love with this place. It is simply paradise. We found the best of both worlds at this beautiful resort because there is such tranquility here right along with lots of fun and activities especially around the pool. We enjoyed the food, the pool, ocean, Las Vegas themed show and casino and taking the train to explore other Bahia resorts. The hotel is pristine, safe and fun. Also, the people who work here are very nice and friendly and do a wonderful job of cleaning, maintaining the grounds and making sure you have a good time. Don't let anyone tell you that this is a three star hotel. It is not by any means. We have stayed at the Atlantis in the Bahamas, and I think we enjoyed this more. The feeling you get here is indescribable in such a delightful way.

3 star resort disguised as a 5 star resort

Overall we found this resort to be well located, with beautiful gardens and beaches which are a credit to the team who maintain them. However, unfortunately during our stay we were extremely disappointed with several elements (detailed below) we feel fall well below the 5 star standard and as a result we sadly wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend this resort. Positives - - [ ] Beautifully maintained gardens, the guys who maintain the grounds take real pride in their work and are a credit to the resort. - [ ] Well maintained beach front with seagrass cleaned up daily by a team of people who work incredibly hard to do so. - [ ] Fairly Modern resort - [ ] Some genuinely excellent staff who take great pride in their work and really want you to enjoy your stay. Shout out to the ladies who work tirelessly every day in the heat around the pool to keep your drinks topped up, they were lovely and a credit to the resort. Negatives - [ ] One of our biggest gripes During our stay we found that the it was very difficult to get loungers by the pool if you arrived there any later than 8am. The situation was slightly better on the beach but only if you didn’t mind being at the back by the bins. - [ ] The quality of the drinks are extremely poor here, they seem to insist on using really acidic pre made mixtures in every cocktail. We literally stopped ordering them after 2 days as they were giving us indigestion. Additionally, premium brands were basically none existent. On the bars seem to constantly run out of basic drinks, one day i couldn’t even get a beer! - [ ] We found the food to look amazing however in reality to be of a poor quality. We have eaten food in 3/4 star resorts of much better quality. In particular, the desserts seemed to be bland low quality pre made and hugely disappointing. - [ ] Whilst as noted in our positive points there are some genuinely excellent staff here who deliver a perfect 5 star experience, we came across a large number who unfortunately did not and really need better training. - [ ] We noticed that Spanish speaking guests seem to received a much better level of service than english speaking, for example on multiple occasions on the beach certain waitresses would take an order from a spanish speaking guest and then completely ignore the english speaking guests around them despite being given tips. Additionally, some staff speak extremely poor english, one guy in the buffet didnt even understand us trying to order a coke despite trying “coke”, “cola” , “coca cola” “ pepsi”. He responded with “ you dont want drink?” And walking off. - [ ] Poor maintenance of rooms, we hadto get maintenance out 3 times during our stay, twice to our safe and once to our toilet which stopped flushing. Additionally, our room was tired with wear and tear all over the place and even holes in the wall behind the bed where decor should be. - [ ] Pool water of poor quality. - [ ] We noticed multiple groups of loud rowdy people from other resorts freely using the Ambar pool and being served drinks unchallenged by staff. Including guests from aquamarine, punta cana and fantasia. One day there was actually a group with childrens wristbands sat at the ambar pool unchallenged. - [ ] Unfortunately some of the cliental here is not what you expect in a 5 star resort, cant really blame the hotel for this one but you can blame them for not acting on disrespectful behaviour. There were several loud groups having literal parties in their swim up rooms way past midnight that went completely unchallenged by the resort staff. In fact, they continued to bring them drinks so literally encouraged it! - [ ] We found the entertainment very hit and miss, we enjoyed the white party and pool party but unfortunately beyond that it was very poor. Additionally, it seems half of the entertainment team are there to entertain themselves spending the day being loud and irritating and sitting around on loungers flirting with girls. [ ] Washrooms around the pools and beaches were often gross by mid afternoon with literal tissues with poo on all over the floor on some days! Suggestions: - [ ] Get more loungers around the pool, get rid of those stupid big chairs which nobody uses and put loungers in their place.
